Another season of Drama Camp will be starting before you know it. I want to tell you about some of the changes we’ve made for this upcoming season. There will be just one camp which we’re calling Drama Camp 2019. We’re going to be doing Annie JR (a shortened version of the Annie musical we all know and love). Annie JR has a large cast with a wide range of roles from the young orphans to Daddy Warbucks and Ms. Hannigan. So, we have combined Kidz Kamp and Teen Camp to accommodate this larger-scale production and to ensure that all the talent in our Munds Park community can be showcased. Drama Camp 2019 will be open to children from ages 7 to 18. It will run for three weeks from Monday, June 24th through July 14th with performances on July 12th, July 13th, and July 14th. Drama Camp 2019 will meet weekday mornings from 9:00 to 12:30. There may be additional rehearsals scheduled in the afternoons during the third week of camp. Tuition will be $180.
We are planning to cast multiple children in the major roles so we can showcase the talent of all our wonderful Munds Park children, and so no one is burdened with learning such large parts in such a short time. Lynn Rouyer, who will be directing Annie JR, and I are very excited about this coming season and being able to offer such a wonderful opportunity to all our Drama Campers.
Based on the popular comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, with a beloved book and score by Tony Award winners, Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, Annie JR features everyone’s favorite little redhead in her very first adventure.
With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
With plenty of parts to go around, including featured roles as well as ensemble parts for orphans, servants and tourists, Annie JR is ideal for productions involving different grade levels and age groups.
