Drama Camp Update May 2021
One Door Closes…
Drama Camp Administrator Nancy Cummings received some sad news in late April regarding
our young choreographer Rebecca Steiner. Rebecca had been very excited to choreograph the
original revue “Cheers to 20 Years!” and could not wait to get started in her role as
choreographer, creating original dance routines and teaching them to our drama camp
performers. Unfortunately in late April, Rebecca advised Nancy of a medical situation which
will prevent her from participating in the camp. We were looking forward to having Rebecca on
our creative team. We will miss her and we wish her a complete and speedy recovery.
As the saying goes, when one door closes, another one opens. In consultation with Music
Director Jennifer Adams, Nancy and Assistant Administrator Lu Cross identified a replacement
for Rebecca and we cannot believe our good fortune. We are proud to announce that Samantha
Isely will join our 2021 Drama Camp creative staff replacing Rebecca as choreographer.
Samantha is a colleague of Jennifer. She is a licensed music teacher in PVUSD in Phoenix, AZ.
Samantha is a seasoned artist, having performed in over 30 productions in the valley. She has
also choreographed for numerous musical theater, a cappella, and choral productions throughout
Arizona and Nevada. A graduate of NAU, she says is thrilled to be joining Pinewood Players
Youth Drama Camp this summer to help celebrate 20 fabulous years of camps.
So as much as we will miss Rebecca, we are very fortunate to have Samantha step in to fill the
void without missing a beat, or should I say without missing a “shuffle ball change!”
In related Drama Camp news, the script and stage production for “Cheers to 20 Years!” has been
completed and is being fine tuned by the creative staff. Our playwrights Nancy Cummings and
Sandra Dyke have outdone themselves in authoring this original production. This play is totally
ready for prime time… next stop Broadway! The storyline is clever! The song choices from
previous productions are fabulous! The dialogue is light-hearted and guides the audience
harmoniously through the musical numbers in a fun-filled, entertaining progression from start to
finish. Overall, the production is a fast paced, upbeat, “cheerful” compilation of song and dance
that is an absolute pitch perfect fit for the 20 year commemoration of Pinewood Players Youth
Drama Camps! Nancy made a great decision to create an original revue. This is not something
that could have been purchased from a play distributor. It’s a very special one of kind show
custom made for Pinewood Players Drama Camp performers. The show premiers in July with 4
performances on the Pinewood Playhouse stage. Don’t miss it! Buy your tickets now!
